Data not working abroad

Troubleshooting

1 min read · Updated 11 October 2026

If your phone shows signal bars but pages won't load, the eSIM is connected and something is stopping the data. These checks solve most cases.

Quick checks

  • Is Simwander your data line? Your phone may still be trying to use your home SIM.
  • Is Data Roaming on for the Simwander line?
  • Is there data left on your plan, and is it still within its validity period?
  • Are you in a covered country? A single-country plan won't work across the border.

Fix it step by step

  1. Set Mobile Data to Simwander.

  2. Turn on Data Roaming for the Simwander line.

  3. Turn off Low Data Mode (iPhone) or Data Saver (Android), which can block apps in the background.

  4. Turn off any VPN, then try loading a web page.

  5. Restart your phone.

Used all your data?

You can top up or buy a new plan from your account. Plans don't renew by themselves, so you won't be charged without choosing to.

Slow rather than stopped?

Speeds depend on the local network and how busy it is. Try moving to a different spot, or choose another network by hand as described in No signal after activation?.
